As women age, breasts lose shape and firmness. The skin gradually loses its elasticity and no longer holds the breasts in a youthful, upright position. Mastopexy operations are usually performed in accredited outpatient surgical facilities under general anesthesia or conscious sedation with local anesthesia. There are several types of mastopexy procedures, depending on the severity of the breast sag. In most cases, incisions are made around the areolar complex of the nipple and in the middle of the breasts. Sometimes they can extend to the breast crease. Postoperative discomfort is usually managed with oral medications and long-acting local anesthesia. A soft bra or compression garment is usually worn for at least several days post-op. This is an outpatient procedure, and you will be able to go home about two hours after the surgery. You should have someone take you home and stay with you for the first day and night after the security procedure.<\/p>

The patient will be seen the next day for 24 hours and follow-up. Most sutures are internal and do not need to be removed. Light activity can be resumed in seven to ten days.
